Lanzarote, November 2023
Lanzarote, all of it by van: the Famara cliffs, Los Hervideros where lava meets the ocean, the coves of Papagayo and nights without lights.

We went around the whole of Lanzarote by van, from north to south.
Where fire created the land and the ocean never stops claiming it back. Lanzarote is an island of lava, and at Los Hervideros you see it better than anywhere: the water rushes into the tunnels carved by the lava flows, boils and pulls back.
Behind, the red volcanoes of Timanfaya park. In front, the wind that leaves nothing alone, not even a scarf.
In the north the Famara cliffs drop straight down to the beach, with tiny surfers below. In the south, towards Papagayo, the lava opens into coves of sand and turquoise water. And at night, with the van parked far from any village, the sky is completely dark.
