Imsouane and Taghazout, August 2024
The longest waves in Africa, the local surfers, the fishermen in the fog. A week on Morocco's Atlantic coast with a 600 mm lens in hand.

Imsouane is a fishing village on Morocco's Atlantic coast, famous for the longest waves in Africa. In summer the morning fog covers everything, the blue boats come back onto the beach and the surfers wait their turn.
For this trip a friend lent me a 600 mm lens, and it changed the way I looked: from a distance, without getting in the way, people stay themselves. Oussama and Houssam on the wave, the children at the water's edge, a mother in her veil standing in the sea.
The photo from this trip that feels most mine is called A mother's hands. It comes from an Arabic proverb: a mother is the hand that holds you up when you learn to walk, and the one that lets you go when you learn to fly.
